Literacy Practices
and Wellbeing During Lockdown

In partnership with the National Literacy Trust

During the school closures, the National Literacy Trust are now running a survey of children and young people’s literacy habits, asking them questions about their wellbeing, reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Since 2005...

the NLT has been tracking children and young people’s literacy behaviours.

They are now building on the previous research in response to the current Covid-19 crisis, to explore its impact on the literacy of children, young people and their parents.

Literacy habits

The survey looks at the literacy habits of children and young people, asking them questions about reading, writing, speaking and listening during lockdown.

This will provide further insight into how their practices and attitudes might have changed as a result of these unprecedented circumstances.

Supporting literacy across the country

To complement the findings from children and young people, they are also asking parents how they are engaging with their children’s reading and writing during lockdown and how this is being supported by schools.

These findings will provide the NLT and your school with crucial information about home literacy practices during lockdown, and help develop better ways to support children’s literacy across the country.
