Macquarie University (Australia) has developed a check-in survey designed to better understand the mental health and wellbeing of pupils.
Introduction

This survey is designed to help us understand how you're feeling and identify ways we can support you more effectively at school. There are no right or wrong answers, so please answer honestly about how you've been feeling recently. It's not a test, it's a chance for us to learn how we can make school a better place for everyone!

What this survey measures
This survey is structured around 7 scales.
Overall Scale
The results from this survey generates a score for each individual pupil of between 15-75, based on their responses to questions 30-44. relating to the subdomains of Family Connections, School Belonging and Peer Acceptance. The higher the score, the higher the protective factors a pupil has in place to deal with factors associated with the development of mental health problems. Most pupils at various points during their academic life, will have periods of anxiety, and attention/activity deficits (lack of focus). and low mood. The responses around Family Connections, School Connectedness, and Peer Acceptance (questions 30-44) will help you to understand if pupils have the necessary protective factors in place to be able to cope with periods of anxiety and attention/activity deficits (lack of focus), and low mood.
Sub-scales
Mental Health Domains comprise of the next 3 areas Anxiety, Attention/Activity and Mood. For all 3 of these areas the lower the score, the better. These questions are gauging the pupil's general feelings of happiness, sadness, hopefulness, and overall emotional state. Looking at the pupil's emotional baseline and whether they are experiencing prolonged periods of low mood or lack of interest.
Protective Factors : comprises of the next 3 areas, Family Connections, School Belonging and Peer Acceptance (the higher the score, the better) Family Connections : Here we are understanding the pupil's sense of closeness, support, and ease of communication with their family or main caregivers. Do they feel they have a stable, supportive foundation at home they can rely on during challenging times?
This area is assessing tthe pupil's feeling of belonging, safety, and engagement within the school environment and with staff. Understanding if they feel valued, safe, and connected to the school community, which is a vital factor in resilience
