The Leuven Scale

EYFS The Leuven Scale is an observational framework developed by Professor Ferre Laevers at the University of Leuven to measure children’s wellbeing and involvement in the classroom. Observations are completed by adults. Each dimension is rated on a five-point scale, allowing staff to quickly assess whether a child is thriving or may need additional support. By tracking wellbeing and involvement, practitioners can tailor interventions, improve engagement, and create supportive learning environments where children feel valued, confident, and eager to learn.
